Privacy
Your data stays with you
Your messages never leave your phone or computer. When you upload a chat to WhatsTyped, the file is read and analysed by code running inside your own browser. Nothing is uploaded. There is no server receiving your messages, no database, no account, no email capture.
Verify it yourself
On a desktop browser you can watch the Network tab in the developer tools and confirm that nothing leaves when you run an analysis. This only works on desktop — mobile browsers (Android, iPhone) don't expose a network inspector.
Chrome (Windows or Mac)
- Open WhatsTyped in Chrome.
- Press F12 on Windows, or Cmd + Option + I on Mac, to open DevTools.
- Click the Network tab.
- Upload your chat and let the analysis run.
- You'll see requests for the page's own files — nothing going to any external server.
Safari (Mac)
- First enable the Develop menu: go to Safari → Settings → Advanced and tick Show features for web developers.
- Open WhatsTyped, then go to Develop → Show Web Inspector.
- Click the Network tab.
- Upload your chat and let the analysis run.
- You'll see only local requests — no data sent to any server.
The one exception, clearly labelled
If you buy the premium unlock and choose the AI-written story, your browser sends only anonymous statistics (counts, percentages, your two Texter Types) to our server so an AI can write your story. Never message text. Never names. This is opt-in and labelled at the moment you tap it.
Payments
Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy; we never see your card details. The only thing stored on your device is your unlock key (in localStorage), which you can clear at any time.
Analytics
We use Vercel Analytics (cookieless, page-level only) and Google Analytics 4 to understand how people find and use WhatsTyped. Neither service receives your chat content or any personally identifiable information from the analysis.
